Please don’t think that the title is a play on words.
John Blake (in the blue shirt) forwarded me some more pictures of himself, Cutthroat (red facial tattoos), and Josh (totally blue eye), who all have eyeball tattoo work by Howie (LunaCobra.net), along with Andrew S from Swingshift (last photo). Each experienced quite a bit of spreading after the injection.

Eyeball tattooing has got to be my favorite new mod… I don’t know if it’s got universal appeal (but who’d have thought tongue splitting, also decried as completely nuts, would take off like it did). My eye tattoo is now almost one year old (along with Josh and Pauly’s). Here’s some closeup photos of how it’s doing.

As you may recall, it had some problems with a cyst-type structure developing (which was examined by eye injury specialists and ultrasounded, with no complications other than the obvious being found). While it definitely made me nervous for quite some time, it appears to be stable at this point. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing this work, and I’m always thrilled to see more of these admittedly gnarly, mutated-looking zombie-like eye experiments!

Because his computer was ripped off, CutThroat hasn’t been able to post a picture of his black eyeball tattoo by Howie (LunaCobra), but I snagged this one from some candid shots that Wiket took at APP this year… If you didn’t already see it, be sure to check out Josh’s amazing completely blue tattooed eye.

I’m really liking Trystan’s new blackwork neck tattoo with gray flowers, done pretty quickly over about two and a half hours by Paul Wren at Th-inker Tattoo in Melbourne, Florida.

I’ve posted Andro and his top-notch work before, so I hope he’s not too mortified that I included this piece (sent in by CrustPictures), which I like a lot on a design level but appears to include a rather unfortunate blow-out on the shoulder! [Edit/Update: this blow-out was intentional and part of the piece; see the comments for more.] I like how it crosses through the front of the ear — it also goes right down her arm (check her page for more photos).

James recently got the bullet hole on his forehead covered up with a crown of skulls by Scooter at Carter’s Tattoos in Bowling Green, KY. You can see his page for clearer shots of the rest of his tattoos, but he explains,
“The crown covers the bullet hole in the center and I’m going back for a second session to add greys, background, and texture. It’s a welcome addition to my face — my left cheek was done by Travis King and my right cheek by Sarin. I always had a love for facial tattooing among other mods. It is my favorite body modification and each piece has deep meanings — the left side is demonic, and the right side is organic biomech, much like a ying-yang concept. The bullet hole and eyebrows, which are now being covered up, were just random additions, but my new piece is much like a crown — to balance things in my life if that makes sense.”

Keeping you updated on Nick’s amazing transformation, here’s the latest work he’s had done. As I said before, I am very thankful to be able to watch this unfold, and it keeps looking better and better.

When I first posted Ferdudurke’s white ink facial tattoo, people thought it looked like a penis (and I admit, once the comment was made, it did look like it)… Anyway, he’s had it filled in now and it doesn’t look like that any more!

Updating you on NYC’s most tattooed architect’s facial tattoo work, here’s the latest photo of Nick’s striking facial work by Tattoo Joe at Physical Grafitti in Bridgeport, CT. I love where this project is going, and it’s a real gift to be able to watch people undergoing this sort of transition.
Edit/update: Read comment #22 for some background on Nick.

Howie (LunaCobra) sent me an update on Josh’s blue eye tattoo project which is looking great! I’m very jealous! Howie’s done a few more eyeball tattoos as well since he did the three of us (Josh, Pauly, and myself) last summer, and a few other people have experimented with it as well, both with machines and injection. Check it out, and there are two more (less “manipulated”?) photos after the break.

More entries on eye tattooing on ModBlog — 1 2 3 4 5 — as well as on my personal blog. I’ll try and post an update on the problems with mine — I have what seems to be a permanent, albeit probably harmless, bump on my eye — in the next few days.

Brendan O’Connor who’s currently on the road tattooing on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, sent me this photo of Lance’s ice cream cone on the back of his head… As well as the tattoo being sort of funny, I think it’s sort of funny that he didn’t shave his whole head.

Pineapple recently pierced Bear’s nipples at 8ga at Shaman Modifications in Austin, TX, so I had to share this great picture of the two of them after the procedure. Both of them have some of my favorite facial tattoos, and of course Bear has amazing stretched lobes, some of the biggest on the planet.

PS. As a point of trivia, did you know that BMEshop once produced some prototypes of a Bear action figure (which never went into full production unfortunately)?

So I was telling Nick (the most visibly tattooed cop in NYC I suspect) that his facial tattoos are looking especially nice now that hair is growing over them and they’re looking like they’ve been there for a while, and he mentioned that TattooJoe (who has great facial tattoos himself) who did them posted a video on his YouTube page; click through to check it out if you’d like.

Jasn at Pacific Rootz in Maui, Hawaii has been doing this facial tattoo on Andy — I like the simple, thin linework which is quite reminiscent of scarification.

From Moscow, Ferdudurke just had his forehead inked in white as well.

Oops, I got caught up with other things and didn’t get a chance to prep entries — I’ll add them at about 8:30 PM as I need to dash now. The other good news is that on the next BME update (probably first thing in the morning; it’s building now), the members section of the site now allows “email via picture”, so if you’re a contributing member, you can send messages to other contributing members through their photos.
Anyway, these eyelid tattoos were done by Mike Loshaw at Dragon FX in Edmonton, Alberta — thanks to Lane for sending in the photo.

My old friend Damien, who started tattoos.com back at about the same time as BME, also from here in Toronto, went to China last fall for the Beijing Convention (he’s currently organizing NIX again for Toronto, and working on a convention in South Africa for next January). He took these pictures of facial tattoos on Dulong tribal women while he was there

Dulong facial tattooing died out in the 50s after China took over the region, and these days there are perhaps fifty people that still wear the tattoos, which were done as a coming of age rite. The designs vary from clan to clan, but their meaning has been largely lost to history. Continue after the break for more pictures by Damien.

After the break you can see another photo of Gnomoweb’s striking facial tattoos, but more interestingly, there’s also a relatively “before” photo that’s strikingly “innocent” looking. See, this is what happens when you don’t take your pills… Moral of the story? Don’t take your pills!

I could have sworn I posted this before, but I couldn’t find it in my searches. I think that Gnomoweb has probably the only palate tattoo that I’ve ever seen with this sort of sketchy star… I don’t see any reason why — other than coordinating it — it’s so unheard of, but it is. His was done by Franca at Tattoo Way in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
