This organic flower pod design by Philip Milic (pmtattoos.com) out of Oakland, CA has got to be one of the nicest tattoos I’ve seen in a long time, and the kicker is, if you go to his page and browse through his work, it’s all this nice… Really amazing stuff.
You can and should click to zoom in.

By Julian (Tattoo Julian) in ValdepeƱas, Spain…
Now
me and my Adidas do the illest things
we like to stomp out pimps with diamond rings
we slay all suckers who perpetrate
and lay down law from state to state
we travel on gravel, dirt road or street
I wear my Adidas when I rock the beat
on stage front page every show I go
it’s Adidas on my feet high top or low
My Adidas…
My Adidas…

Justin saw the recently posted walrus tattoo and it inspired him to send his own “I AM THE WALRUS” tattoo. His was done in a classic computer Beatles font by Stano at Tattoo Zone by Stano in Daytona Beach, Florida.

I’m really liking Trystan’s new blackwork neck tattoo with gray flowers, done pretty quickly over about two and a half hours by Paul Wren at Th-inker Tattoo in Melbourne, Florida.

Kelsey sent in these nice shots (a second is after the break) of her wings, tattooed by Matt at Famous Ink in Sacramento, California. They were taken at Table Rock in Oregon.

I’ve posted Andro and his top-notch work before, so I hope he’s not too mortified that I included this piece (sent in by CrustPictures), which I like a lot on a design level but appears to include a rather unfortunate blow-out on the shoulder! [Edit/Update: this blow-out was intentional and part of the piece; see the comments for more.] I like how it crosses through the front of the ear — it also goes right down her arm (check her page for more photos).

Erin’s cormorants on her shoulders were done by Stephen at Lefty’s in Pittsfield, MA. She explains them and the tree tattoo that sits central on her chest;
“I was shocked when I learned that having a large tree tattooed on my chest would change my life forever. Now people are drawn to my art instead of in awe of my nasty scars. People of all ages and walks of life are attracted to my tree, and the birds have helped to bring peoples eyes up from my chest.”

This pretty back piece — the shaded boxes being what really sets it apart from one of a zillion generic pieces — is being done by Chris Dingwell at Sanctuary Tattoo in Portland, Maine.

James recently got the bullet hole on his forehead covered up with a crown of skulls by Scooter at Carter’s Tattoos in Bowling Green, KY. You can see his page for clearer shots of the rest of his tattoos, but he explains,
“The crown covers the bullet hole in the center and I’m going back for a second session to add greys, background, and texture. It’s a welcome addition to my face — my left cheek was done by Travis King and my right cheek by Sarin. I always had a love for facial tattooing among other mods. It is my favorite body modification and each piece has deep meanings — the left side is demonic, and the right side is organic biomech, much like a ying-yang concept. The bullet hole and eyebrows, which are now being covered up, were just random additions, but my new piece is much like a crown — to balance things in my life if that makes sense.”

I’m probably done (emphasis on “probably” — you know I never follow that “I’m not posting rule” when I say I will) until Monday, but before I go a quick science tattoo done at Exotix in Toronto. As well as BME’s huge “Geek Tattoos” section, I wanted to recommend the superb “Carl Zimmer’s Science Tattoo Emporium” blog, which has lots of science tattoos and their backstories and makes a great read.

Delanne just got double-teamed again by Jeff Paetzold (Topnotch Tattoos in Elgin, IL) and Tim Victim (Deep Six Laboratory in Philadelphia) at the Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention, with this alligator versus shark tattoo done over about four hours. She’d previously had a chameleon (which you can see on her page) done by the two of them.
Also after the break is a mildly disturbing tattoo that Jeff also did for her, a worm wrapped around a butterknife with a butter hat, which she wears on her right forearm.

Yes, yes, bring on the jokes about how Miss Mindi (who does “acrobatic neo-burlesque”) is not just very cute, but also very horny (pierced by Kristof in Brisbane)… What I especially got a kick out of though — and you can see this in the play piercing photos after the break — is that she has a Cheshire Cat tail tattooed on her!

Newton Omondi Oduge, who tattoos out of Mombasa in Kenya sent me these pictures of him tattooing a lion on the back of Ammelie, a Swedish tourist. I asked him what the tattoo scene was like in Kenya, and he replied,
“The tattoo scene in Kenya is actually not that much of a scene, with very few artists and even fewer good ones. I wouldnt say we have a scene here at all, but nonetheless, we try and give our best ink. It’s only made harder because 90 percent of the time your are tattooing dark skin, and small pieces at that. Then, once in a while you get a big job, maybe all-out colorfull on white skin, and you have to pull it together.
I have been fortunate to visit Europe and do some work there, but honestly, without the interaction from the Western world we are not going to go far. I hope to get to visit Japan or the States one of these days and just sit in a corner at a great studio and watch and learn. Peace.”
In all honesty, I’ve seen a lot of lion tattoos, and this is far better than most!

So one one hand I’m sure that she was happy to have Pete cover up her name from his shoulder, but on the other hand I don’t think she was too thrilled about him permanently saying, “Rachel has become a demonic clown-bitch from hell!” This great coverup was done by Tim Victim at Deep Six in Philly.
