“Takedown This!”
By Shannon • May 3rd, 2007 • Category: ModBlog[see also: on ModBlog or on Digg if you don't get the context]
So… how do you DMCA a tattoo off of a person? Am I allowed to tell people that it’s a “09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0 tattoo”? Is a magazine permitted to print photos of this tattoo? Can the tattoo artist or shop (Good Faith Tattoos, Boston) be sued? Can the person wearing the tattoo be sued? Can a corporation force a medical procedure (a tattoo removal)? Can they force him to always wear a shirt? Well, Rich from The New Freedom has decided to be the bait!
Edit: I’ve been told to submit this to Digg, but because (continuing in the “Digg loves censorship” meme) Digg has banned its users from linking to ModBlog because they find the content offensive, so it’s not gonna happen.

2nd post in a historic thread
holy moly go son!
i can almost imagine a judge ordering a tattoo removal these days… and did he just go out and get that done yesterday?
May the Schwartz be with him.
good luck to him, see how the feckers deal with that
haha he is great :D
Secret AACS numbers, the photoshopped edition…
Wired News has a gallery of the lovely photoshops of the notorious AACS “secret key,” a 16-digit number that is illegal to possess and disseminate. AACS is the anti-copying system built into HD-DVDs (and you’re out of your mind if you buy one of th…
is someone able to please explain this for me? huh whaaaatt???
fecking WONDERFUL! i officially love this guy, i hope he keeps us updated ;)
#8. just scroll down till you come to the best riddle or ask dig.com.
the story of that number goes around the world. we will see where it will lead.
haha amazing!
i wonder how he’ll explain it in a year or two, either way legendary.
[...] Hehe.. if you havent been following the secret numbers fiasco.. it just moved up a notch.. someone had the magic numbers tattooed on their chest.. Gold.. pure gold [...]
The voice of pessimism here, but I’m not convinced that’s real…
I’m having it tattooed on my arm tonight, too :)
Could someone clear this up for me, please?
Is this the code to put into DVD players to make them region free so they can play any DVD from any region?
If it’s not that, then what is it? I’ve read the modblog entries and all the other links, but I just can’t put the pieces together…
Lovin the fact that this lil number *well not soo lil* is gettin around so much *lol*
Shame the face is a partially missing…ah well
@Chrissie (#13): This seemingly arbitrary number/letter combination represents a HD-DVD encryption key that got hacked recently (it’s hexadecimal), thus allowing people to bypass the DRM built into the format, enabling them to copy the content.
The content industry is trying to prevent this code snippet from being distributed with all the legal guns that are available, mostly taking down websites.
It`s history repeating - exactly what happened with DeCSS - the DVD copy protection - a few years ago.
Google the code and you’ll see….
[...] I think everyone should be pretty familiar with the hot AACS “secret key”, which triggered user revolt on Digg. The story started, as someone posted a story on Digg about the secret key that could actually crack the HD-DVD AACS anti-copying system, but Digg took it down, then triggered the user revolt to get it back on. What else, it’s claimed to be illegal now for possessing or desseminating the secrey key, as AACS LA will be sending legal threat to those sites for holding it and even threatened Google to stop indexing those web pages that have the keys. When writing this post, I did have a pause, thinking if I shall host the picture on this blog here, which I found it on Boing-Boing. I didn’t know and didn’t pay much intention about the news that AACS LA would take actions on sites that show the keys. Anyway, I’ve already had two screenshots captured of Digg, which shows pretty clear of the secret numbers. According to Boing-Boing, there are about 368,000 pages contain the number, up from 3,600 yesterday. Someone, even more daring, had a tattoo on his hairy chest, as shown in the picture above. Goldcoaster got one that is pretty interesting too, the key on a t-shirt. So what? It’s now more than a third of a million indexed on Google, and it’s now everywhere over the Internet, lets see what the AACS LA can do about it! AACS claimed that the HD-DVD is unbreakable. Of course, if you break it, they’ll threaten too sue, that’s it! [...]
I was confused until post #18,19
Thats kind of a big deal for him to have that shit on his chest. I wonder what will happen to him if anything, I mean obviously the AACS is going to have alot of shit to deal with over this but I just wonder what they can do about someone having the code tattooed on them
sweeeeeet
It seems to me that the code is open now anyway, the tattoo does no longer add anything to that.
This is so fucking epic.
Takedown, heh
I somehow can’t see anything being done about this…
hahah. Hooray for rebellion.
I would imagine that if they tried to have him remove the number in court, that it could be classified as cruel and unusual punishment. Tattoo removal surgery is supposedly VERY painful
wow like a fuckin day later!
i read that entry, i went to work and 13 hours later i read mod blog again
and here it is!
tattooed already…sick
I submitted the story to Digg. Everyone, please digg the story and get it to the frontpage! :D

Too bad the key no longer works for new titles…
The Digg users weren’t all that uptight about it until Alex Jones of infowars.com and Prisonplanet.tv began bitching to their subscribers calling the issue censorship. Oddly when I posted a link in response- that proved Alex Jones is likely a conspiracy propaganda plant by the government and the catholic church:
http://spirituallysmart.com/pics.htm#Charlie%20Sheen%20and%20Alex%20Jones
I thoroughly researched the info and its is indesputable- then posted a comment on both infowars and prisonplanet- within 10 minutes my post was deleted!
Talk about the pot calling the tea kettle black!
Dude, shave off the rest of the chest pelt. Otherwise the reverse chest-mohawk looks freaky.
wow, i love the tattoo and the concept.
too bad that’s pointless now
Perhaps if you still want this dugg, digg the original blog post here:

Looks like it’s drawn on with a pen… just my opinion, but…
seriously? wow, I kindof hated digg anyway but this takes the cake.
i doubt it will do much, but just so you know shannon i sent digg a message telling them of my disgust of them being offended by the mod world and that i would from this point on boycott there site.
it has to start somewhere
it has to start sometime
oh man modblog is banned from digg?
thats fucking tragic

Thats great. Maybe we should take the chance to org some demos

[...] The resulting uproar when certain sites like DIGG removed posts containing the key at the behest of the media corporations, set the web alight for a good few days and the fires are still burning — DIGG’s latest posts. What followed was a whole host of riffs using the code; monkey cartoons, t-shirts and even tatoo’s. The bandwagon was a little too fast for any kind of reaction on my part, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t figure something out with a little hindsight. [...]
f*** the system right on man right on

The way I see it they can’t tuch anyone for the color of their skin. Any atempt to do so is pure rasism. So no it’s said.
It does look kinda funky… like photoshoped in.
